Local restaurants to try while in Kauai

Insider Tips on What to order and how to avoid tourist traps around all regions of kauai

Poipu & Koloa

Puka Dog

Must-try: Polish sausage with pineapple field relish and lilikoi mustard - they have a four garlic sauces to add as well with varying levels of heat but I don’t eat garlic so you’ll have to try that for yourself!

Stop by Brennecke’s Beach Broiler that is upstairs and try the amazing Hawaii old fansioned with Hawaiian moonshine which is similar to a whiskey!

Kauai Fish Market

This is like poke bowls but make your own. We like to do it family style, we’ll get different sides and make our own. Great for sharing.

Smoked marlin and Shoyu poke are favorites in my family

Kapaa

The Musubi Truck

Must Try: Musubi of course!

The chicken Katsu is my favorite!

They do have Poke and bento as well.

Kauai Juice Co.

Cold-pressed juices and smoothies; bring a glass bottle for eco-friendly refills

Hanalei

Hanalei Dolphin

This is a fish market and restaurant. The fresh fish sell out fast but a great spot for dinner.

Must-try: Seafood Chowder is amazing and so is the sushi!

Whether you're staying in the luxurious resorts of Poipu, the historic vibe of Lihue or the breathtaking views of the North Shore, this page will have great recommendations on authentic island eats.

By dining at these locally owned establishments, you're helping to preserve Kauai's culture and supporting those who call this island home. Don't be afraid to try that roadside food truck that may not look like much from the outside but is usually where the locals go. Some of the islands best culinary treasures are hidden in plain sight, waiting for visitors who are willing to eat like the locals
